Leo and Lola: Teaching kids the importance of, well, everything!
Concept Art for a children’s story book series I’m planning which will tackle ‘taboo’ issues like racial prejudice, religious prejudice, sexuality (which will be when they’re older because the plan is to have a series of them from being 8 to being 14-16), gender identity, perspective, child abuse, family, the meaning of love, and other topics.
The story, so far, will start with two main teachers, Ms Miel and Dr J who encourage the children to try their best. They have their different problems and struggles, including prejudice for Ms Miel’s religious choice and Dr J’s life as a teenage parent. Still, the children look up to both as role models as they all want to be kind and understanding too.
Leo and Lola are a pair of mixed twins, Korean on their mother’s side and Spanish on their father’s side. They’re rambunctious and they like to take matters into their own hands. Julie is a quiet, patient kid who doesn’t like violence or mean pranks. She is considered the most mature in their group (others coming soon).
But yeah I’ll probably actually work on this after my IB is over but I’m planning right now. If anyone has any ideas of what I should write about or specific characters you would love to see, do tell me!
